MOODY AIR FORCE BASE – Officials at Moody Air Force Base have released the identity of an airman who died over the weekend while off-duty in Florida.

Airman 1st Class Christopher O’Brien, a 25-year-old pararescue apprentice and native of Lebanon, Penn., was assigned to the 38th Rescue Squadron. O’Brien died Saturday near Ginnie Springs, Fla.

The initial investigation indicates that O’Brien accidentally drowned while free-diving. There is no evidence of foul play, according to officials.

“It is a great loss to us all when we lose a member of our Air Force family. Team Moody and I extend our deepest condolences and prayers to family and friends during this difficult time,” said Col. Thomas Kunkel, 23d Wing commander.
