LOWNDES Co. – An overnight detour for Interstate 75 South traffic at Exit 13/Old Clyattville Road is scheduled for installation of new bridge beams above lanes of traffic. During the detour the I-75 southbound on-ramp (entrance ramp) also will not be accessible.
The detour is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. on June 2. Traffic will not be detoured during daylight hours.
Southbound traffic will get off the interstate at Exit 13 and take Old Clyattville Road to Gil Harbin Industrial Boulevard, turn onto Madison Highway and return to the interstate at Exit 11.
The overpass was damaged in 2013 when a tractor-trailer crashed and caught fire under the west end of the bridge. Repairs will include replacing portions of the deck and some of the beams and rehabilitating other parts of the bridge. The work will also affect Old Clyattville Road traffic. Contractor Southern Concrete Construction Co. is scheduled to complete repairs Sept. 30.
