VALDOSTA – Three oversized loads traveling from Brunswick to Procter & Gamble in Albany are scheduled to begin travel Thursday. The loads will travel 30 minutes apart and will be escorted by law enforcement.

The width of the loads will require use of two lanes, but the convoy will periodically pull over to allow traffic to pass. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the route if possible; otherwise, please be patient and do not try and pass the convoy.

These pieces of equipment are not as tall as the two that traveled through south Georgia last month, so utility personnel and bucket trucks will not have to accompany the trucks. Each load is about 90 feet long, a little more than 14 feet tall and 19 feet 11 inches wide. Due to the width, the Georgia Department of Transportation classifies these as “super loads.” All three are permitted for 120,000 pounds, which is the combined weight of the truck, tractor and load.

After this transport, three final pieces of equipment will be moved from the port to P&G. The dates of that move will be announced in advance. The hauler is Guy M. Turner Inc. of North Carolina.

The trucks are scheduled to leave the Port of Brunswick at 9 a.m. (load one), 9:30 a.m. (load two) and 10 a.m. (load three) Thursday. Travel time is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Depending on traffic conditions, the convoy may reach Albany on Thursday; if not, it is expected to arrive Friday.
