A court case involving former Valdosta State University student Eric Sheppard has been put on hold. He garnered national attention when he walked on an American flag during a demonstration. There is also a charge related to a handgun that was allegedly found in a book bag on campus that police connected to Sheppard.

Congratulations go out today to Second Harvest of South Georgia. Marketing officials Eliza McCall announced that the agency has been awarded Gold Standard- the highest level of recognition given by the Feeding America organization of which Second Harvest is a member. The award recognizes the local agency for meeting the highest standards of management, operations and maintenance.

An officials with the state school systems office of external affairs is calling on the Governor Nathan Deal to lead an effort to provide improved mental health services and access for the children in the state. According to the report from the Atlanta forum the advocacy group Voices for Children nearly 4 in 5 Georgia children who are much in need of behavioral health services; one third of the counties in Georgia have no mental health professionals. State Representative Rick Jasperse stated that twenty percent of Georgia’s children have diagnosable mental health issues.
