TIFTON – Tifton police have arrested a teacher who was seen on surveillance video knocking over a child with special needs.
Amelia Stripling, 71, turned herself in Friday afternoon after a warrant was issued for her arrest. Stripling has been charged with 2nd degree cruelty to a child, reports WALB.
Surveillance footage from March 17 appearsto show the teacher knocking down the four-year-old Pre-K student. Tift County School officials said the young boy was not injured and reported the incident to the Division of Family and Children Services.
Stripling, a special education teacher, resigned after the incident. Officials said she had worked for the school system for more than 20 years.
The student’s mother has retained a lawyer.
