THOMAS CO. – A south Georgia mayor charged with using her city’s credit card for a Christmas party turned herself in to the Thomas County jail Tuesday afternoon.
Mayor Linda Harris of Meigs has been charged with three counts of financial transaction card fraud and one count of violation of oath of office. Harris is accused of spending over $130 of city funds on a Christmas party in December, reports WALB.
Investigators said she admitted to making the purchases and that she said she was unaware she was not allowed to make the purchases.
Harris’ bond was set at $12,500.
This is Harris’ fourth arrest since becoming Mayor in 2013. She was arrested in October 2015 for taking $80 cash as payment for city services, in April 2014 for allegedly making threatening gestures toward city officials and in 2013 for allegedly stalking the former Meigs mayor she defeated in the election, reports WCTV.
A recall vote for Mayor Harris is planned for May.
