VALDOSTA – Georgia has executed a former Navy crewman for killing a fellow sailor in 1992.

Travis Hittson, 45, was pronounced dead at 8:14 p.m. Wednesday at Jackson State Prison.

Hittson was convicted of killing fellow sailor Conway Utterbeck whose dismembered remains were found in two states.

Another Navy crewman, Edward Vollmer, reached a plea deal with prosecutors for his part in Utterbeck’s death. Vollmer is currently serving a life sentence for the killing, reports The Associated Press.
