QUITMAN- After a thorough search that began in October 2015, the Brooks County Board of Education has named Dr. Vickie Reed as the finalist for the Superintendent of Schools.

Dr. Reed currently serves as Superintendent in the Murray County School System. She has 28 years of experience as a teacher, building level administrator, curriculum director and superintendent in the Murray County school system.

The naming of the finalist culminates four months of intense search activity by the Brooks County Board of Education. In October, the Board employed search consultants King-Cooper and Associates. With the help of the search firm, the position was advertised, candidates screened and lengthy interviews conducted. With the naming of the finalist, the Board must now wait at least 14 days before taking an official vote to employ Dr. Reed.

Dr. Reed earned an associate and bachelor’s degree from Rheinhart College. She earned her Master’s Degree and Specialist Degree from Brenau University and a Doctorate Degree in Curriculum from NOVA University. She also has a Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Lincoln Memorial University.

The superintendent finalist began her education career in 1987 as a fourth grade teacher in the Murray County Schools. She also served as an assistant principal and was curriculum director before becoming superintendent in 2005.

Dr. Reed has received many professional honors: GAEL Jim Puckett Outstanding Educator Award (2010), GSSA Presidents Award (2013), and Education Week’s “Leaders to Learn From” Award (2015). She was also named Teacher of the Year from her school (1994).
