METCALFE — A Thomasville man died in crash Wednesday after the ice truck he was driving ran off a road, striking a utility pole.

Robert Salter, 51, was reportedly carrying approximately 6,000 pounds of ice in a Prestige Ice truck around noon when he left the roadway, and the truck flipped onto its passenger side, killing Salter immediately.

Sgt. Jeff Culpepper of Georgia State Patrol told the Thomasville Times-Enterptise the incident was the first fatality of the new year for Post 12.

GSP and the Georgia Department of Transportation are continuing to investigate the incident.
