CANTON — Cherokee County sheriff’s detectives have arrested the mother of a baby who died Sunday.
According to a report from WSB, police said they took Alyssa Kincaid, 24 of Canton, into custody late Tuesday night during a traffic stop near Canton.
Cherokee County sheriff’s detectives said in the report she was wanted on a charge of second-degree cruelty to children in connection with the death of her daughter. The baby died at 24 days old, police said.
Sheriff’s spokesman Jay Baker noted in the WSB report that social media helped to find Kincaid.
“Apparently, the social media and the media, it worked. I mean, it certainly got her moving around, and we were able to find her, so we’re very happy with that,” Baker told WSB.
Police arrested and charged Kincaid’s boyfriend for the baby’s injuries.
Baker said Sunday that Nicholas Campbell, 26, is charged with four counts each of child cruelty, aggravated assault and aggravated battery in the connection with the death of Ciara Campbell.
Baker said Campbell isn’t the girl’s biological father and is not married to her mother.
Baker said deputies responded Thursday night to a call about an unresponsive child and arrested Campbell after interviews with him, the girl’s mother and her grandmother.
Baker said the injured baby died Sunday after being removed from life support at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
Campbell was also charged with possession of methamphetamine and is being held without bond in the county jail.
His charges could be upgraded depending on the results of an autopsy, which was conducted Tuesday.
Deputies say Kincaid has an extensive criminal backgournd in Cherokee and Cobb counties.
Some of her previous charges involved drugs and lying to law enforcement.
