EATONTON — A minor earthquake was reported in central Georgia near Eatonton.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported a magnitude 2.6 earthquake was recorded near Eatonton.  There were, however, no reports of injury or damage.

Earthquakes of this size and larger have been reported for decades in the south.  Old buildings in historic cities like Savannah and Charleston still show evidence of building practices used to secure buildings during earthquakes.  You can still see cross-brackets on the sides of some buildings used to secure walls centuries ago.
