WASHINGTON – The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Brunswick provides law enforcement personnel with first-class training, but the training center has never been reauthorized by Congress since it’s creation in the 1970’s. Now, Congressman Buddy Carter is pushing legislation through Capitol Hill to accomplish just that.

His legislation to reauthorize is on its way through the House. The House Committee on Homeland Security approved the legislation and now it will make its way to the House floor.

Carter says the reauthorization is necessary so that the responsibilities of the director of FLETC will be authorized and more clearly identified. The Congressman says the training facility, that deals with upwards of 90 federal partner organizations, is vital for law enforcement education and the Brunswick area’s economy.

Carter says that in order for the FLETC to operate appropriately, it needs to be written in law that the facility is reauthorized. This will allow the director to assume his newly clarified duties and consult with law enforcement agencies on the programs at FLETC.
