TALLAHASSEE — In an emergency Florida A&M University Board of Trustees meeting Thursday morning, Trustee Kelvin Lawson made a motion to terminate FAMU President Elmira Mangum.

The main issue revolves around Mangum’s spending on renovations to the President’s residence.

Purchase orders add up to more than $300,000 for repairs and changes to the house itself. More than $70,000 was also used to build a garage.

In a statement Wednesday night, Dr. Mangum said that thousands of dollars of work done to the university president’s home that were not approved were started before she became president.

A FAMU attorney said at the Thursday meeting that there are at least 4 projects at the president’s that violate state law.

FAMU Trustee Torey Alston said during the teleconference that he is “sick and tired of the back and forth between the president and the board.”
