ATLANTA — In Georgia, the average price for a gallon of gasoline on Sunday was $2.75, down seven cents from a week ago. Gas prices in Georgia for Thanksgiving 2013 averaged $3.27 a gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded was $2.82 Sunday, 46 cents cheaper than the price on Thanksgiving Day 2013.

SAVANNAH — Police in Savannah are investigating the shooting death of a 12-year-old boy. Savannah-Chatham police spokesman Julian Miller said in a statement that Keith Passmore was pronounced dead at Memorial University Medical Center after being shot Saturday night.

Authorities believe the shooting happened at a party with roughly 30 people in attendance. Details on the circumstances that led to the shooting weren’t immediately available. Police are asking anyone who may have been there to contact the department. Savannah police last week also said they were investigating the shooting of a 6-year-old boy during a domestic dispute, and the fatal shooting of a 2-year-old girl who was wounded when someone fired from outside her family’s apartment as she slept on a couch.

ATLANTA — The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety is urging drivers to be careful and to use seatbelts during the holiday travel period. Officials say 20 people died during crashes during the Thanksgiving travel period in 2013, which ran from Nov. 27 to Dec. 1. Officials say law enforcement throughout the state will be watching for drivers who aren’t using seatbelts during the holiday travel period and a “Click it or Ticket” campaign will continue through Nov. 30.

ATLANTA — State transportation officials say they’re suspending construction-related lane closures during the upcoming holiday travel period. The Georgia Department of Transportation says it’ll suspend lane closures between 5 a.m. Wednesday and 10 p.m. Sunday on interstates, major state routes and roads near major shopping areas. The department says it’ll give drivers the same reprieve during the Christmas and New Year’s holiday travel periods as well. Officials say the move doesn’t include emergency lane closures and is meant to ease holiday traffic. GDOT officials say some crews may still be working near highways and some long-term lane closures may remain in place during the holidays for safety reasons.
