GSP, FHP Targeting Drunk Driving Over Holiday

cop-pulling-over-1Law enforcement agencies from Athens to Key West will be on the lookout for drunk or impaired drivers beginning this weekend as the 4th of July travel period officially kicks off on Saturday.

More than 2 million Floridians and 1.1 million Georgians are expected to take to the roads for vacation over the next 10 days. Operation Zero Tolerance goes into effect on Friday and runs through next Sunday.

In 2011 and 2012, Georgia has averaged 88 alcohol-related crashes between July 3rd and July 5th. Already this year, more than 525 people have died on Georgia roads, already a 5 percent increase from last year.
