One of Florida Governor Rick Scott’s priorities for the 2013 legislative session was giving teachers across the state an across-the-board $2,500 pay raise. Unfortunately for them, the state legislature has something to say about that.
Meeting over the weekend, they agreed to set aside $500M to boost teacher pay. However, budget negotiators in both the House and Senate will go ahead with a proposal that will tie the pay raise into teacher performance. They also plan to offer the raises to employees outside the classroom, which will lower the amount given to each educator.
