Deal Ends Minimum Sentences In Some Drug Cases

GA state capitolOn Friday, Governor Nathan Deal signed into law a bill that would eliminate mandatory sentences for those involved in certain drug cases. HB 349 gives judges the option to avoid the mandatory sentences in cases which the defendant is not the primary suspect in a criminal investigation.

Also included in House Bill 349 is the creation of the Georgia Criminal Justice Reform Commission. That commission will oversee and conduct periodic reviews of the state’s Juvenile Justice system.
