Gun Bill Fails To Get Through GA Legislature

GA state capitolOn Sine Die yesterday, the final day of the General Assembly, one bill that had made headlines for weeks ended up on the proverbial cutting-room floor. Senate Bill 101 would have allowed guns to be carried on college campuses, and had already passed the state House earlier this month.

It was the urging of college presidents, staff, and administrators from around the state, however, that appeared to get the Senate’s ear.

Rep. Alan Powell, R-Hartwell, said the two sides had an apparent agreement on Wednesday but said the Senate moved the goal posts the next morning. “We thought we had a deal,” an exasperated Powell said.

A similar bill is expected to be introduced in the next legislative session.
