VALDOSTA – In recognition of Disaster Preparedness Month, Dollar General is spotlighting its support for Valdosta, Georgia before, during and after natural disasters.

Release:

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), this year is expected to be the highest-ever forecast for hurricane season, and in California, wildfires have already burned more acres than in the past two years combined. In recognition of Disaster Preparedness Month, Dollar General is spotlighting its support for the communities it serves – including Valdosta, Georgia – before, during and after natural disasters.

In Valdosta, Dollar General Literacy Foundation’s Beyond Words literacy grant program awarded Pinevale Elementary $5,000 to rebuild its library and replenish books following Hurricane Idalia in August 2023. In addition to its Beyond Words program DG supports the communities it calls come before, during and after natural disasters, through:

  • Providing Essentials: DG provides convenient, affordable access to essentials needed to prepare for and recover from a storm, including water, non-perishable foods and batteries.
  • Disaster Relief Partnerships: Since 2001, DG has supported the American Red Cross to prepare for when disaster strikes. The Company recently furthered its commitment to the organization with a $250,000 donation, which helps provide shelter, meals and emotional support resources to those affected by disasters.
  • Employee Support: DG provides financial support for DG team members and their families facing hardships following a natural disaster through its DG Employee Assistance Foundation (DGEAF).

In the wake of Hurricane Francine, Dollar General recently announced a partnership with World Central Kitchen (WCK) to support disaster response and provide nourishing meals in the communities it serves following natural disasters and other crises.
