Valdosta man charged for Stop and Shop robbery

VALDOSTA – A Valdosta man already in custody is served additional charges for a Stop and Shop armed robbery that occurred in February.

Arrested: Patrick Edwin Mattews, Africana American male, 27 years of age, Valdosta resident

On February 6, 2024, at approximately 2:20 pm., Valdosta Police Officers, Detectives, and Crime Scene Personnel responded to Stop and Shop at 1408 East Hill Avenue after the clerk had called E911 to report that an armed robbery had just occurred at the business. When officers arrived at the store, the clerk reported that two males entered the business and produced a handgun while demanding money. The two males then ran from the store.

Detectives have spent countless hours processing evidence and conducting interviews.

On April 2, 2024, detectives obtained arrest warrants on Patrick Edwin Mattews, 27 years of age, for armed robbery (felony) and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony (felony). Mattews was already in custody at Lowndes County Jail on unrelated charges. He was served there with these additional charges.

This case is still under investigation, and further charges are forthcoming.
