VECA student wins 1st place in Georgia FLEX competition

VALDOSTA – A VECA student was recently awarded $5,000 for winning the Georgia FLEX competition entrepreneurship program.

VECA student Kayla Calloway was recommended by her cheer coach, Coach Aqila Blankumsee, to participate in the Georgia FLEX competition, an entrepreneurship program for high school students that engages them in the business world through experiences and mentorships. Kayla competed this past Friday in the top 3 portion of the competition, and was victorious, finishing 1st place! She was awarded $5,000 to help grow her business! Kayla will represent the entire city of Valdosta at the statewide competition on April 12th. Her advisors, Aqila Blankumsee and Diondra Arnold were also awarded for their participation in the program during the competition. Kayla attributes her success to her extremely supportive family, friends, and the community.
