VALDOSTA – On Monday afternoon, VPD officers were patrolling East Ann Street after receiving a citizen complaint. Officers spoke to Chadaine Thomas who initially gave a false name. Further investigation found that Thomas had an active warrant for his arrest as well as a handgun in his possession that had been reported stolen. Thomas was transported to the Lowndes County jail and is facing felony charges of theft by receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

On February 24, 2020, at approximately 5:43 pm, patrol officers with the Valdosta Police Department were patrolling the 600 block of East Ann Street in reference to a citizen complaint. Officers were speaking with a subject, later identified as Chadaine Thomas. Thomas initially provided the officers with a false name. Upon further investigation, Thomas was found to have an active warrant for his arrest. After being detained Thomas was searched prior to being transported to jail. Thomas had a handgun in his possession that had previously been reported stolen out of Valdosta. Thomas was transported to Lowndes County Jail on the following charges:
Theft by receiving stolen property (felony).
Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (felony).
“This is an example of a citizen recognizing something out of the ordinary in their neighborhood and notifying law enforcement. Their call to 911 resulted in this stolen firearm and wanted subject being taken off of the street”. Lt. Scottie Johns
