VALDOSTA, Ga. – On January 26, 2020, at approximately 1:06 a.m., a citizen dialed 911 to report a subject, later identified as Michael Williams, walking in the 600 block of East Brookwood Drive, carrying a television.

Patrol officers with Valdosta Police Department quickly responded to the area and located Williams who still had possession of the television.

Williams told the officers he had permission to have the television and other items from the incident locations. Officers were able to locate the owner of the property who disagreed with Williams, saying the property was in fact stolen.

Williams was transported to Lowndes County Jail and charged with felony burglary.

“This alert citizen prevented this offender from getting away with stealing the victim’s property,” said VPD Lt. Scottie Johns in a statement. “We are extremely grateful he contacted us quickly, so the offender was caught with the stolen property.”
