VALDOSTA, Ga. – On January 15, 2020, at approximately 8:21 p.m, patrol officers with the Valdosta Police Department responded to the 2500 block of North Oak Street in reference to a home invasion.

According to a Valdosta Police Department report, upon arrival, officers were told a subject named Matthew Stanaland broke into the home and pointed a handgun at one of the victims.

Through investigation, officers were able to determine that Stanaland physically assaulted the victim prior to leaving the residence.  Officers were able to locate Stanaland and take him into custody without incident. He was transported to Lowndes County Jail on the following charges:

• Aggravated Assault-Felony

• Home Invasion in the first degree-Felony

• Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime-Felony

• Battery-Misdemeanor

No serious injuries were reported, and this was an isolated incident between individuals known to one another.

“Luckily the victim was not seriously injured or worse in this case,” commented VPD Lt. Scottie Johns. “Our officers did a great job investigating this case and getting the offender off the streets in such a timely manner.”
