VALDOSTA, Ga. – This past Friday and Saturday, hundreds of VSU students said goodbye to their time spent here in Valdosta. Some of them received their Doctorate’s, others received their Master’s, but many of them were receiving their very first Bachelor’s degree.
Arionna Muhammed received the President’s Award for Academic Excellence, an award to the graduating student with the highest grade point average in each of VSU’s six colleges. Muhammed plans to begin her teaching career while also pursuing a master’s degree in elementary education, according to Valdosta Daily Times.
The Undergraduate Ceremony that was held on Saturday featured VSU’s signature firework show after the event. 161 members of the Class of Fall 2019 were welcomed into the 1906 Society, a student giving organization that is dedicated to the continued growth and development of VSU through individual gifts from graduating seniors and graduate students.
Membership in the 1906 Society is open to any graduating students who want to help ensure that future generations of Blazers are given the same opportunities for learning and personal growth that they enjoyed during their time at VSU. Donations of any size are welcome. However, graduates are encouraged to give at least $19.06 in commemoration of the university’s founding.
Class of Spring 2020 seniors and graduate students interested in joining the 1906 Society should make plans to visit University Advancement in the Regional Center for Continuing Education when classes resume in January.
