VALDOSTA, Ga. – After the December 3 runoff election on Tuesday, the Lowndes County Board of Elections were unable to make an official announcement due to the votes being so close between mayoral candidates Scott James Matheson and J.D. Rice.

With only a 123 vote lead, it has been necessary to count the 130 provisional ballots before Matheson can be officially named the winner.

Valdosta Today will be providing an official announcement at 4 p.m. when the Board of Elections releases the information.
