VALDOSTA, Ga. – On November 30, 2019, at approximately 11:30 a.m., an off-duty Valdosta Police Department detective was in the area of the 200 block of Jones Street. He heard a woman yelling for help, stating that she had been robbed.

The victim yelled at the detective and advised him that Christopher Locks had snatched her purse away from her and took off running. The detective observed Locks running with the victim’s purse. The detective pursued Locks and was able to detain him until other patrol officers arrived on the scene. The officers were able to recover the victim’s property and return it to her. When officers searched Locks, they located cocaine, marijuana, and tools used for narcotics use on him. Locks was transported to Lowndes County Jail on the following charges:

• Robbery by sudden snatching-felony;
• Possession of cocaine-felony; and
• Possession of marijuana-misdemeanor.

“We are so proud of this detective that was off-duty, working on a residence, who quickly jumped into action when he heard a victim yelling for help,” said VPD Chief Leslie Manhan. “Because of this detective’s actions, this offender was quickly apprehended and the victim was able to get her property back.”
