VALDOSTA, Ga. — A man has been charged with second degree vehicular manslaughter in connection with the death of a 5-year-old child who was one of the seven occupants of a vehicle with Alabama plates.

The single-vehicle wreck took place around 12:10 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 between North Valdosta Road and Hahira exits around the 26 mile marker.

According to reports, the driver, identified as Alejandra Espinoza, over-corrected, which led to the vehicle flipping and landing upside down.

The little girl was the only one ejected, and the only fatality.

Alejandro Espinoza, the driver, has also been charged with failure to maintain lane, driving without a license, and a child-restraint violation.

Five of the passengers in the overturned car were taken to South Georgia Medical Center, while another, only 13, was Life-Flighted via helicopter to Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla.

Reports from Harding indicate that there are missing details since none of the seven spoke, read, or wrote English.

The wreck shut down the southbound lanes for several hours.

The vehicle had an Alabama tag on it.
