VALDOSTA, Ga. – On November 22, 2019, at approximately 6:55 p.m., Valdosta Police Department patrol officers responded to the 2200 block of Baytree Road, in reference to an armed robbery.

Upon arrival the victim indicated he was meeting with a subject, later identified Dan’Kerous DeBruce, to purchase a cellular telephone.

The victim said that a second offender approached him with a handgun and demanded that he give DeBruce the money. DeBruce ended up taking the cellular telephone and the undisclosed amount of money.

Responding officers were able to locate DeBruce in the area and detain him.

While officers were interviewing DeBruce, he gave various accounts of what had occurred, to include that he was a victim of a crime.

Through their investigation, officers determined that DeBruce was not a victim of crime, but an offender.

DeBruce was transported to Lowndes County Jail on the following charges:

  • Armed Robbery (Felony); and
  • Making a False Report.

This case is being actively investigated and the second suspect is still being sought.

“Our officers’ fast response and thorough investigation made this arrest possible,” commented VPD Lt. Scottie Johns. “When meeting people in these types of situations you should always use caution, we would recommend meeting at the police department or similar locations.”
