LOWNDES CO., Ga. – Tuesday, November 19, around 2:45 a.m., a Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted a traffic stop of a Chevrolet Malibu with illegal window tint.

The driver, Darien Howard, refused to stop and continued south on I-75 reaching speeds of in excess of 130 miles per hour. While fleeing, the occupants tossed a handgun out the window which was later recovered by deputies.

The pursuit traveled into Hamilton County, Florida where Hamilton County deputies joined the pursuit and were able to deploy stop sticks and perform a P.I.T. maneuver which caused the vehicle to stop and the driver and the passenger, Rashaun Williams, were arrested.

Deputies searched the vehicle and found moving boxes filled with vacuum sealed packages of marijuana, totaling over 50 pounds.

Darien Howard and Rashaun Williams were taken to the Hamilton County Jail where they will be housed for charges in that jurisdiction and eventually returned to Lowndes County.

Arrest photos were not available at the time of this writing.
