VALDOSTA, Ga. – On October 29, 2019 VPD patrol officers heard gunshots on Old Statenville Road. Witnesses told police that Stevie Yearby had been shooting a gun. Officers quickly detained 29-year-old Yearby and recovered the weapon.

Nearby, a 42-year-old male victim was found grazed by the gunshots. Through investigation, officers discovered that Yearby had been
in a fight with a woman and during the altercation a family member intervened to stop Yearby. Yearby then began firing towards the family member. The family member was treated and released on scene by EMS for superficial injuries.

Yearby is now in Lowndes County Jail for a felony charge of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, reckless conduct and simple battery.

“We are extremely proud of our officers who heard the gunshots and responded to the area quickly, taking this dangerous offender into custody without incident. The offender’s actions were reckless and he put many other lives in danger.” Lieutenant Scottie Johns.
