VALDOSTA, Ga. – Georgia Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, sat down with Game Changer host Angela Ward to introduce House Bill 316. This legislation brings in new voting machines for all Georgians.

Raffensperger stated that Georgia has been using the same machines since 2002 and it is time for a change. The new machines will be advanced and more efficient, helping the voting process in Georgia become more precise. 

Electronic voting, or e-voting, refers to voting using electronic means in order to cast and count votes. Bill 316 introduces new touch screen machines that print out the voter’s ballot instead of casting it automatically. This helps the voters make sure that everything on their ballot is correct. Raffensperger explains the process by saying, “After their ballot is printed, the voter will walk over to the optical scanner which counts the ballot while also dropping a receipt.”

The receipts are put into a box before the voters leave, ending the voter’s ballot process. The receipt is a very important because it allows a physical recount to be taken. The purpose of the audit is to give candidates a clear count of how much they won or lost. With this Bill, Secretary Raffensperger hopes to be able to secure the integrity of Georgia election races.
