VALDOSTA – Summer feeding programs are kicking off in South Georgia.

In Georgia schools, over 60% of children qualify for free or reduced lunch.

The local non-profit, Our Daily Bread, is picking up those meals during the Summer break. They provide free breakfast and sack lunches to hundreds of kids in surrounding counties.

Local volunteers began delivering meals in late May, and will continue every weekday until the end of July.

Local volunteers say it’s a huge help for low income families during tough times.

“Everybody that gets involved, you’re not just getting involved to do a service,” says Gregory Williams, a volunteer. “You’re getting involved to raise a village. That’s pretty much what we’re doing here is raising a village. We’re making memories. The kids are remembering us. They’re listening, so we can pass on advice and help them go through life.”

He says every year he sees the crowd of kids multiply.

Due to high demand, they’ve added on 12 new stops in Valdosta. Our Daily Bread is looking for more volunteers to help distribute meals to local kids.
