A drug raid at a home in Albany netted five suspects and illegal narcotics. Law enforcement had received numerous complaints about activity at the residence where officers found heroin, methamphetamine and spice along with prescription narcotics.
Gambling raids brought about the arrest of two men in Dougherty County. One of the men arrested was identified as the owner of two of the raided businesses and the other man is listed as a store employee. Both are charged with felony commercial gambling. The commercial gambling operations are major state-wide problems. One agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported that in 2016 the machines took in over 2 billion dollars. More arrests are expected.
The expansion of the Premium Peanut Corporation in Coffee County will bring new jobs to the area. Plant officials have announced the 14 million dollar plan for a peanut oil facility to the existing shell and ship operation that was created just a year ago. Farmers will now be paid for their peanuts and for the peanut oil as well. The expected production capability is 3 million gallons of peanut oil annually. The target date for online production is 2018 and in September the shelling plant goes into a 7 day work week with the addition of 100 jobs.
Traveler’s up and down the Georgia Grown Trail 37 which runs from Fort Gaines to through Moultrie and on to Homerville is bringing extra revenue to Colquitt County. Agricultural tourism in that area has been bolstered by the eight Georgia Grown stops that include wineries, and strawberry farms as well as other products in the largest agricultural County in Georgia.
The number of warrants issued in the murder case of Justin King continues to grow. Albany officials say that Cordarrius Clay who is already incarcerated is in a group of seven suspects involved in the killing of Curtis Davis, Jr. The search continues for murder suspect Jamale Moore and officials warn that Moore is armed and should be considered dangerous.
Law enforcement officials in Moultrie have released the name of a West Palm Beach, Florida woman who was killed in a tragic accident. Georgia State Troopers report that 44 year old Esther Falcon’s vehicle collided with an SUV, and it is suspected that Falcon failed to yield at a stop sign or drove into the path of oncoming traffic. She died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The City of Valdosta will celebrate Georgia Cities Week, April 23-29, with a variety of events throughout the week.
