Four pounds of methamphetamine, five pounds of marijuana, steroids, weapons and cash were seized during a multi-unit task force raid on a Nicholls, Georgia home. 44 year old Belinda Medders was arrested and the authorities are searching for her son 25 year old Stacy Medders.
A fugitive from law enforcement in Dougherty County is now behind bars following a chase that ended in a car crash. When a deputy from Sumter County assisted by a Post 10 State Trooper stopped Autumn Manriquez they discovered that her license and registration were invalid. Her passenger Robert Edwards got behind the wheel of the car and fled but crashed and attempted to continue on foot but was captured. He was found to be in possession of Hydrocodone, Dilaudid and marijuana. He will also face charged in Dougherty County.
After murder suspect David Luke spoke with investigators charges against him were dropped. He was wanted in connection with the Albany murder of John Lewis Jr. The search continues for another suspect identified as Jamarious Wright. Luke and Wright according to the investigators may not have been directly involved in the killing. So far six other men are in custody including a 15 year old that is charged with murder. Officials report that Lewis’ murder involves an ongoing battle between rival gangs.
The search for information as to the whereabouts of 42 year old Brandon Helms of Lanier County continues. He was last seen in December of 2014. Anyone with information is asked to call the Lanier County Sheriff’s Department at 229-482-3545.
State officials recently recognized a South Georgia veterans program. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Military and Veterans Services Coordinator Tabora Temple was among four college representatives in the Technical College System of Georgia recognized recently with a resolution by legislators in Atlanta, according to a press release. The resolution recognized Wiregrass Tech for being ranked 13th in the nation as a military-friendly technical college. Temple had a 24-year career in the Air Force and retired as a master sergeant.
Georgia Governor Nathan deal is hoping that his state and others will not incur backlash from the federal government for not expanding Medicaid programs as changes are made to health care legislation. Deal reportedly has no regrets for refusing the expansion under the Affordable Care Act due to the long term costs associated with the plan. Deal adds that some persons covered in other states under the expansion may now lose their coverage.
A bill in the state legislature that mandates that fire departments provide insurance coverage to employees who are diagnosed with specified job related cancers has been approved in the general Assembly. The legislation was supported by the Speaker of the House David Ralston.
