VALDOSTA – A Valdosta man was killed early Monday morning when his vehicle overturned on a Lowndes County road.
At approximately 2 a.m., Georgia State Patrol troopers were dispatched to a single vehicle crash on Fender Road just West of Whitewater Road, said GSP Cpl. Chris Kelch.
Michael Anthony Johnson, 43, was reportedly traveling east on Fender Road in a white 1992 Ford Mustang.
“While negotiating a curve, Mr. Johnson over corrected the steering to the left. The vehicle then began to rotate in a counter clockwise direction. The vehicle continued to rotate off of the roadway and into the north ditch,” Kelch said. “Upon entering the ditch, the Mustang left the ground. The vehicle then began to overturn onto its top, driver’s side and passenger side before coming to an uncontrolled rest on its top.”
Johnson sustained fatal injuries during the incident and was pronounced deceased on scene by Coroner Brad Carter, said Kelch.
Troopers suspect speed and alcohol may have been contributing factors in the incident, and a toxicology report is pending.
