J.L. Lomax Elementary School Hosts I.M.A.G.E. Awards Ceremony

To begin the program, fifth grade scholar Jh’Viya Kier welcomed parents, staff, distinguished learners, Central Office personnel and community partners to the ceremony. Next, fifth graders Roger Foster and Omarion Thornton led the attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance and the J.L. Lomax Pledge. After the pledges, fifth grade scholar William Scott delivered the occasion by explaining that the Shining S.T.A.R.S. or Scholars Taking Academic Responsibility to Succeed would be honored for their great achievements. He further explained that at J.L. Lomax, excellence is the expectation. Another talented fifth grader, Junlya Miller followed, reading a poem titled “You Can Do Anything.”Finally, the moment everyone was waiting for arrived. The awards were presented to student scholars for the following accomplishments: Honor Roll with Distinction, Honor Roll, Merit Roll, STAR Grammarian, STAR Mathematician, STAR Scientist, STAR Historian, STAR Reader, STAR Athlete, STAR Artist, and STAR Musician. Students’ names were called one-by-one and they were given the opportunity to stand and receive their recognition.

A STAR-parent was also recognized for her hard-work. For this nine weeks, Ms. Terry Johnson, mother to Noah and Lauren Mobley, was recognized for her continual support and participation. Next, fifth grade scholar David Gilyard shared a heart-felt thank you to our amazing community partners. These partners go above and beyond to support our school and our students. Mr. Bowers was recognized for the month of September. He was selected because he not only supports our reading and behavioral goals, but he also spends a lot of time reading with first and second grade scholars. For the month of October, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey were recognized for their time and dedication applied to tutoring our first grade stars. The program was ended with a dance and the school song, “J.L. Lomax is the Place to Be,” written by second grade teacher, Ms. Valerie Ryals.

Another I.M.A.G.E. Awards ceremony will take place after the second nine weeks. We invite our community members and families to attend.
