VALDOSTA – The Valdosta Fire Department and local officials are searching for a suspect believed to responsible for multiple arson fires.

VFD reports that the City of Valdosta had at least 9 suspicious fires at vacant homes between June and October 2016. The fires mostly occurred in southeastern Valdosta between midnight at 4 a.m and resulted in extensive property damage.

Officials say a task force was formed to investigate the fires and identify a suspect in the case.

VFD says 24-year-old Benjamin Michael Wilcox has been identified as the suspected serial arsonist. Wilcox is now wanted for questioning in connection to the fires.

Wilcox is a white male, 5’8″ tall, and weighs approximately 170 pounds.
