VALDOSTA – A Valdosta juvenile is facing charges after his mother found stolen property in his bedroom and called the police.

In September, detectives with the Valdosta Police Department began investigating the burglary of a home on Hyssop Crossing. The victim reported numerous items were stolen from the residence, said VPD Lt. Adam Bembry.

“Days later, uniformed patrol officers received a call from a juvenile’s mother who advised police that she had found items in her son’s room that she believed to be stolen,” Bembry said. “During the investigation, detectives analyzed the items and determined that several of the items had been stolen during this burglary.”

Last week, a juvenile complaint was completed, and the woman’s son was charged with theft by receiving stolen property, reports stated. The case has been turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

The Valdosta Police Department commending the mom for the information she provided in this case.

“Residents that cooperate in active investigations play a huge part in the successful prosecution of the offenders and in keeping our city safe,” said Bembry.
