Law enforcement throughout the region is warning parents and trick or treaters to be aware that all candy collected may not be what it appears to be. Officials say that some drugs are being disguised to look like candy. The candy is laced with drugs and appears in the shape of dominoes, skeletons and other familiar shapes.
A case involving a string of auto break-ins may now be solved in Thomasville with the arrests of Cortoayvius Thurman and Ricardo Williams. The two were captured thanks to surveillance video around Archbold Hospital. Thurman was charged in several incidents and no bond was given; Williams faced one count and bond was set at $2,100.
Eric Frederick of Moultrie was arrested and officials have filed felony obstruction and burglary charges against him. The suspect was captured just minutes after a resident phoned the incident in to police. Frederick may be connected to other burglaries in that area.
42 year old Wesley Shane Rathel the sheriff of Miller County has been taken into FBI custody in connection with the sale of stolen weapons. One transaction occurred at a Donalsonville pawn shop; the sheriff came away with $600 on a 30 day loan. In another transaction sheriff Rathel sold a hand gun for $200. The record shows that the weapons involved were an AR-15 rifle, a shotgun and a handgun.
Gasoline prices are going down in the area The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline dropped four cents from $2.11 from a week ago. One station on Highway 84 sold gas for $1.92 a gallon over the weekend and other fuel stations were selling regular gasoline for $1.99 per gallon. The average price of gasoline nationally as of Saturday was $2.22 a gallon while AAA reported Georgia’s statewide average at $2.18.
The identity of a Moody Airman found unresponsive in a hotel room has been released by base officials. Senior Airman Sebastian Jenkins was a fire team member of the 822nd Base Defense Squadron. The investigation is ongoing.
The water war between Georgia and Florida is headed to court. An officials appointed by the United States Supreme Court will her arguments. Georgia officials say that limiting the states water source will hurt the states economy while Florida officials say that farmers in the North and Southwest parts of the state are using too much water damaging the downstream oyster industry. The dispute focuses on the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin. The result could affect millions of people and major industries in both states.
There has been another arrest in the case involving the death of a 17 year old who was found to weigh only 45 pounds at the time of his demise. The mother of Javontez Thomas-50 year old Sabrina Robinson was arrested last week. Now, officials have arrested her live-in boyfriend 57 year old Michael Butler in connection with the teenagers death from malnourishment and neglect. 24 year old Christina Harris the sister of Javontez Thomas was also taken into custody. The charges include manslaughter. The 17 year old had been dead for at least three days when emergency personnel found him in a bedroom at the home.
