During the 78 hour Labor Day Holiday Period which started on Friday, September 2nd and ended Monday, September 5th, Post 31 Troopers investigated 18 crashes with 2 injuries and 0 fatalities. Statewide, Georgia State Patrol investigated 8 of 13 crashes resulting in fatalities. Fatal crashes.
29 year old Brandon Rogers was arrested by law enforcement officers in Tifton. Police responded to a shots fired call at the Walmart Superstore and found Rogers in possession of a handgun. No injuries were reported and officials say that one of the reasons that the situation did not escalate was due to the calm manner in which store employees responded to the potentially fatal incident.
Moody Air Force Base officials announce the discovery of the body of civilian employee Lisa M. Williams and the effort to determine her cause of death is underway. Williams was unresponsive when found; she is survived by her husband and two daughters.
Two people have been taken into custody in connection with the shooting death of Lakeland resident Willis Flintroyal and the wounding of Scholanda Johnson. Lewis Geddie age 20 is charged with felony murder and other violations. Frederick Calhoun faces assault and weapons charges. When officers found Geddie he had been shot multiple times according to the report.
Jeb and Bob Bell of Mitchell County have so far lost two court cases in their battle with the Sabal Trail natural gas pipeline company. The brothers have been ordered to pay Sabal Trail legal fees amounting to almost $50,000. However, the Bell’s say that the fight to stop Sabal Trail’s construction of a pipeline continues. They are protesting and hoping to make citizen’s aware of of the fact that Sabal Trail has been given permission to drill under the Flint River and other waterways. The Bell’s are also attempting to raise funds that will help them to pay off the legal fees judgement against them.
Methamphetamine, marijuana, spice and a nine millimeter handgun were found in the possession of 22 year old Dontravious Hamilton of Albany. The gang unit took the previously convicted felon into custody without incident. In another incident Demetrius Luke was driving along South Madison in Albany when he heard multiple gunshots ring out shattering the passenger side window of his vehicle. Luke was wounded in in the shoulder. Officials report that he was treated at the hospital and released, and that he saw no shooters.
What started as an after party physical confrontation between several women led to the shooting incident that left Randall Lyles and his brother Rakeem with gunshot wounds near the 50 Yard Line nightclub in Moultrie. Anthony Dale Lee was transported to a hospital suffering from a gunshot wound but later died as the result of his injuries. Randall Lyles a convicted felon is charged with Felony Murder, Rakeem Lyles was charged with violation of probation on an outstanding warrant.
