VALDOSTA – Family and friends are mourning the loss of 23-year-old Evan Souris.
He died in a car crash at the intersection of E. Hill Avenue and Clay Road in Valdosta on Tuesday.
A car struck Souris’ driver side door.
“He is loved, just as much as Evan was,” says Jennifer Souris, Evan’s wife.
That’s the message she wants to pass along to the other driver involved in the crash.
“So he can move on he doesn’t carry that burden,” adds Jennifer.
She says since the crash, she and her family are taking things one day at a time.
“Every single morning, when I roll over in bed and he’s not there. That won’t ever heal,” says Jennifer.
She says it’s still hard for her and her family to comprehend that their loved one is gone.
“The whole word is lying. There’s no way because at 23-years-old you’re invincible,” says Jennifer, when she first found out about the accident.
She says Evan left a voicemail that morning, saying he was leaving his night shift and heading back home.
Evan’s sister, Allison Souris, says it still doesn’t feel real to her.
“I really don’t think it’s sunk in that he’s actually gone and I can’t pick up the phone and call him,” says Allison.
The family says he’ll always be remembered as a great father.
The kind that made his own father, Nick Souris, proud.
“He had a superman tattoo on his back,” says Nick, talking about his son.
The tattoo was placed right below Evan’s 3-year-old’s name, Kristabella, in kryptonian.
“It was more because of the way we thought of him, more than him thinking of himself as being superman,” says Nick. “It wasn’t like that. He put that there because he wanted to be that.”
A memorial service will be this Saturday at 4 p.m. at McLane Lakewood Funeral Home.
They would like everyone to wear purple, Evan’s favorite color.
Following the service, the family will receive friends until 6 p.m.
Instead of flowers, the family is taking donations towards a Go Fund Me account for Kristabella’s education fund.
