LOWNDES Co. – The Harley Langdale Jr. Foundation is giving the Lowndes County school district $50,000 for the next five years.

The $250,000 will go towards S.T.E.M. education in all 11 schools.

S.T.E.M. stands for the integration of science, engineering, math, and technology.

The schools are working to integrate S.T.E.M. initiatives through several avenues, such as hydroponics, aquaponics, food forests, Makers Space, coding, computer programming, engineering and robotics.

“To be able to integrate various subjects and help students have real life experiences and real world experiences, so that their learning can translate to the workplace after graduation, we think is very beneficial for students”, says Superintendent Wes Taylor, of Lowndes County Schools.

The initiative is meant to inspire more students to go into these fields for their careers.
