VALDOSTA – Valdosta Fire Department units were dispatched to a reported building fire at 1011 E. Hill Avenue at 2:23 AM on Saturday.

VFD Engine 1 reported smoke and flames visible from Fire Station One  (106 S. Oak Street) while in route to Hill Avenue.  The first unit arrived at 2:28 AM to find heavy smoke and flames venting from the roof.

A second alarm was requested for additional fire units to respond and assist. Due to the fire conditions, fire units on the scene made an aggressive exterior fire attack, using aerial master streams and multiple hand lines. There were a total of 9 fire apparatus and 27 fire personnel on the  scene.

The fire was under control at 4:15 AM. Lowndes County Fire and Rescue responded to assist with providing additional manpower. Valdosta Police Department assisted with directing traffic and Georgia Power secured all electrical utilities. SGMC EMS Unit assisted VFD personnel with Firefighter Rehab.

The building was not occupied and there were no injuries reported on the scene. The fire is currently under investigation and no damage assessments are available at this time.
