LOWNDES CO. – On Friday, July 1, investigators with the Special Operations Division of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office arrested two people for possession of Methamphetamine after receiving citizen complaints.

Around lunch time, investigators stopped a vehicle being driven by Jana Horton, 31. During a search of the car, the investigators reportedly located a quantity of Methamphetamine valued at several hundred dollars.

The investigators obtained a search warrant for Horton’s residence, located in the 3300 block of Race Track Road, where they
found more Methamphetamine valued at approximately $1,800.

A second resident of the home, Ruben Ortiz, 36, was not home at the time of the search but was arrested later in the day.

Jana Horton and Ruben Ortiz were taken to the Lowndes County Jail. Horton has been charged with Possession of Methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and Possession of tools for the commission of a crime. Ortiz has been charged with Possession of Methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, Possession of tools for the commission of a crime and Use of a communications device to facilitate a crime.

Sheriff Chris Prine commented, “This is another great example of information from the public pushing these investigations forward. Safe communities are a joint effort of law enforcement and citizens. The Special Operations Division did a fantastic job in this case taking that information and acting upon it. Simply said, we need the public’s assistance. Great work to all involved.”
