VALDOSTA – On May 24 at approximately 11 a.m., a known wanted subject, Devin Cromartie, 22, was spotted in the 2500 block of Forrestwood Drive by a road patrol shift supervisor. The supervisor attempted to make contact with Cromartie, but upon seeing law enforcement fled the area on foot into the neighborhood. Additional officers responded to the scene and had intermittent contact for several minutes of pursuit on foot. The subject was finally apprehended after approximately twenty minutes after first attempting to evade capture.

Cromartie was wanted for an incident that occurred on January 5. In that case, warrants were signed against Cromartie for multiple traffic violations resulting from a traffic accident investigation.

The prior outstanding warrants resulting from that investigation are listed as:

• Driving without a Valid License (Misdemeanor)
• Reckless Driving (Misdemeanor)
• Failure to Signal (Misdemeanor)
• Disregard Stop Sign (Misdemeanor)
• Fleeing and attempting to Elude (Misdemeanor);
• Cromartie was also wanted for two Violation of Probation warrants.

Cromartie will be charged an additional charge of Misdemeanor Obstruction for his obstruction of officers in today’s incident. After he was taken into custody, he was transported to the Lowndes County Jail.

“I am very proud of the continuous effort by one of my shift supervisors for continually looking for wanted subjects within the City of Valdosta and the subsequent teamwork of the several officers that assisted in the pursuit of the suspect,” said VPD Chief  Brian Childress.
