LOWNDES Co. – Interstate 75 daytime and weekend single lane closures are planned near the weigh station for additional work on a statewide Georgia Department of Transportation project called Weigh In Motion. The work is dependent upon favorable weather.

Weather permitting, the right (outside) lane and shoulder of I-75 South from milepost (MP) 23 to 24 will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The right (outside) lane and shoulder of I-75 North from MP 22 to 23 will close from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

The Weigh in Motion project involves installing weigh scales in outside interstate lanes approximately 3,000 feet upstream of each of the existing 19 weigh stations to prescreen commercial vehicles.

The scales are designed to capture and record axle weights and gross vehicle weights as vehicles drive over a measurement site. Unlike static scales, WIM systems are capable of measuring vehicles traveling at reduced or normal speeds and do not require the vehicle to come to a stop. This makes the weighing process more efficient, and, in the case of commercial vehicles, allows for trucks below the weight limit to bypass static scales or inspection sites.
