VALDOSTA – On Friday, Valdosta broke ground on new construction on the Street Enhancement Project on the Coastal Plains property at 900 S. Troup Street.

The project, which will run from Griffin Avenue to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, will include pedestrian, street, stormwater and utility improvements in one of Valdosta’s oldest neighborhoods.

Funded by SPLOST VII, the project will positively impact the quality of life within the neighborhood through the construction of new sidewalks on the eastside of the street, crosswalks, curb and gutter, bicycle lanes on both sides of the street, underground storm sewer and drainage inlets, new driveway aprons, and new water/sewer service connections.

“The contract project time is 240 days, or 8 months,” says Kevin Tolliver, the project manager.

First, they’ll start underground, installing pipes for storm water. After, fresh sidewalks, bicycle lanes, and driveway aprons for every homeowner.

“If we get started doing something with Troup Street, build it up, we’re going to build up hope for the whole area,” says Sandra Tooley, with Valdosta’s City Council.
