VALDOSTA — A semi-truck fire has shutdown southbound lanes of Interstate 75 below mile marker 24, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The truck caught fire at approximately noon Wednesday between mile marker 22 and 23.

The driver of the truck reportedly noticed a problem with the vehicle. He then pulled over and saw flames, said a Lowndes County spokesperson.

No one was injured in the incident, and the blaze was not caused by a traffic accident.  The incident was also unrelated to a nearby DOT construction project, said Nita Birmingham with GDOT.

The left lane was open at 2:40 p.m. GDOT estimates all lanes will re-open at approximately 6 p.m.
