VALDOSTA  – A Florida man was injured and has been issued citations for a Tuesday morning collision involving a Lowndes County school bus that sent six students and another driver to the hospital with minor injuries.

At approxiamtely 7:58 a.m., Georgia State Patrol Trooper Brian Bass responded to a crash with injuries on North Valdosta Road approximately .2 mile west of Val North Drive in Lowndes County.

A Lowndes County school bus was stopped in traffic in the left westbound lane of North Valdosta Road. The bus was transporting 39 children to Lowndes High School.

A Chevrolet Traverse was stopped behind the school bus in the left westbound lane. A Toyota Tundra was traveling west on North Valdosta Road in the left lane.

The driver of the Tundra, James Jenson, 58, of St. Petersburg, Florida, did not realize traffic was stopped and struck the rear end of the Traverse. The Traverse then struck the rear end of the school bus.

Jenson was unrestrained and was transported to South Georgia Medical Center for chest injuries and is in stable condition.

The driver of the Traveerse was also transported to South Georgia Medical Center for minor injuries and has since been discharged.

Air bags did deploy in both the Tundra and Traverse.

Six of the children on the school bus were transported to South Georgia Medical Center for minor injuries and have since been discharged.

Jenson was issued citations for Following Too Close and Seatbelt Violation, reports stated

Troopers do not suspect alcohol or drugs to be a contributing factor.
